 Aloo chaat is popular in West Bengal, North India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Aloo chaat made with potatoes, tomatoes, and Sev on the top. It is one of my best listed snacks all the time. 

Hello friends! In this recipe post, I am going to describe and show you how to make Indian aloo chaat in the quickest and easiest way by gathering some common ingredients. If you don’t have the ingredients in your kitchen, you can easily buy them from the nearest local market.

Variety of Indian Chaat

Chaat is a spicy street food that originated in Indian Subcontinent. There are many chaat in India but popularity depend on city or state. Different types of chaat originated from different part of India.

Aloo Chaat – made with fried potatoes, tomatoes, chutney and sev on the top. 

Aloo Tikki Chaat – a delicious chaat made with mashed potatoes on the top yogurt, tangy chutney and green chili chutney.

Pani puri – a popular and delicious street food in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Pakora – a crispy snack that made with vegetables, paneer, chicken, bread, etc.

Bhelpuri – a spicy sweet-tangy soft snack that made with puffed rice, sweet chutney, green chutney, chopped onions, sev, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. It is a popular street food in Mumbai, India.

Dahi Puri – a also popular street food in Mumbai. It is made with pani puri, dahi(yogurt), sev and chutney.

Chotpoti – a popular street food in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. It is made with boiled mashed potatoes, sliced onions, chili, chickpeas and tamarind sauce. 

Dahi Vada – a popular street food in North India. It serves as a snack. It is also known as “Doi Bora” in West Bengal, India, “Dahi Bhalla” in Punjab, India.

Sev Puri – a delicious street food that originated from Mumbai made with pani puri, sev, boiled mashed potatoes, dahi and chutney. 

Pav Bhaji – a delicious fast food that originated from Maharashtra, India. It is made with different types of vegetables and served with a soft bread. [Wiki]

How to Make Homemade Crispy Aloo Chaat

Making of Indian aloo chaat is quite easy; not difficult. Following my recipe instructions step by step, everyone can make crispy and tangy spicy aloo chaat at home that is full of tasty flavours and colorful texture on the top.

  • First, you need to boil cubed potatoes (three big sized potatoes). Heat non-stick frying pan with 1 cup vegetable oil. Add cubed potatoes and fry until a bit golden color. Remove all cubed potatoes on a bowl. 
  • Now add cumin, finely chopped ginger-garlic, tomato, salt to taste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Cook until a thick gravy.
  • In the final step, take bowl, add fried cubed potatoes and gravy. Mix well. Now add finely chopped red onion, sev, finely chopped green chili, coriander leaves, chaat masala on the top. That’s it!

Ingredients
Step: 1 Potato Frying
  • 3 pcs Boiled Cubed Potatoes
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
Step: 2 Gravy Making
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tsp Finely Chopped Garlic
  • 3 pcs Finely Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp Ginger Paste
  • 1 tsp Garlic Paste
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
Final Step Serving Aloo Chaat
  • Finely Chopped Red Onion
  • Sev
  • Finely Chopped Green Chili
  • Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Chaat Masala
Instructions
  1. Boil three big size potatoes, then cut them in cubed.

  2. Heat oil on the non-stick frying pan. Fry all the boiled potatoes cubed until light golden brown.

  3. Remove the potatoes on a bowl. Fry all boiled potatoes cubed by the same procedure.

  4. Now put cumin seed on the heat oil. Next put Finely chopped Garlic 2tsp, Finely chopped Tomato 3pcs, Ginger paste 1tsp, Salt to taste, Turmeric Powder 1/2tsp, Cumin Powder 1/2tsp, Coriander Powder 1/2tsp and Red Chili Powder 1tsp. Cover with the lid for a minute. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.

  5. In the final step, take a bowl put fried cubed potatoes. Now add onion and tomatoes gravy. Mix well.

  6. For serving - take a nice plate. Put mixing cubed potatoes on the plate. Add Finely Chopped red onion, Sev, Finely chopped green chili, Finely Chopped Coriander and chaat masala on the top. Now serve it to your friends-family.
